Apologies for another letter but I felt it was important to keep you informed of what is happening at school.
Following yesterday’s announcement regarding the closure of schools to all pupils with the exception of ‘vulnerable’ children or those of key workers, we have been working hard with other schools in Education South West, across Devon and the country, to put in place practical arrangements to make this work.
From Monday 23rd March, Kingswear Primary will be closed.
Certain children who fit the government definition will receive their educational provision at Dartmouth Academy where they will be supervised by staff from their own school. We have had to take this necessary action in order to ensure that there are sufficient staff to enable schools to open in a safe manner. We are liaising with Devon County over travel.
Children of key workers (such as health, police, social care, delivery drivers) It is not yet clear which workers fit this definition. The government are due to announce this today or tomorrow. As soon as we have this information we will circulate to you a document for completion to indicate your roles and whether you are able to send your child to school under this arrangement. If you do fit into this category and choose to send your child to school then you need to inform the school of this.
If your child does attend school next week then it is important to note that they will need to bring a packed lunch to school as there will be no catering facilities on site. Education South West have organised meal vouchers for children in receipt of free school meals. These will be posted to your house or hand delivered to your child tomorrow. Children in receipt of these who are able to attend school must bring a packed lunch.
Once again, I wanted to thank you and reassure you that we will make sure that we formulate plans that are in the best interests of our students, staff and communities. We will update you on progress again tomorrow.
